At Zumba class this morning, one

of the women's fitbit thingies showed that she had 5,800 steps in 54 minutes. Another women's said she had 4,300 steps in the same amount of time.

I don't wear one of those things and never will, so I am going to split the difference and say I had 5,050 steps at my Zumba class this morning. Close enough for government work!

Wow! That seemed like a lot so I just checked my FitBit and I range from 4600 to 5400 for a 45-50 min Zumba class. Interestingly, the lowest number was from a day class was really crowded. (I usually just focus on calories burned so I'd never checked the steps.) So I definitely think your government math is right!

I have one of those Fitbit thingies, and my Zumba class comes out to between 2 and 2 1/2 miles of steps, depending on which Zumba class I take. Just like with a basic mechanical step counter, Fitbit should be calibrated to one's stride.
I love my Fitbit for my long hikes.

I take the numbers with a grain of salt. I use it only for my heart rate and there are times when I know it's higher or lower than the actual numbers based on my exertion.
