One more question...

Since everyone replied so nicely

Would you order takeout? I live in an area with a nice downtown. I feel really badly for all the restaurants. They are on our town facebook page asking people to still order from them, and going over all of their sanitary practices. I'm tempted to order a pizza tonight. I love the local pizzeria. I would order and throw the entire thing out just to help them out-seriously. So, are you still ordering takeout?

I am planning to order tonight. Many restaurants in my part of town are offering to bring the food to your car and you can prepay online. I think the risk would be minimal for picking up food this way. I also want to support these business people.

Yes, I'm still ordering from local restaurants, and eating it. I know the ones that always got an "A" rating from the Health Dept., so even under normal circumstances they work hard to stay hygienic. Now they're doing even more, so I want to help them.

Can you buy a gift card to use later? That allows you to support a local business and you can enjoy their food later.

Yes. I trust in our local system. There is a particular group that rips restaurants apart in my area. I look for their sticker on restaurant doors even during normal circumstances.

What I am being extra careful about is prioritizing local businesses. The huge chains have corporate backing even if they are ďindependentlyĒ owned. However, the mom and pop places are not going to survive this if we donít help them out. Another idea if your very concerned about the virus is to buy a gift certificate to use after the crisis has passed. It gets money in their hands now and may make the difference between them staying afloat or going under which means them being able to pay rent/mortgages, keep the lights on, and feed their own kids.

If you reheat it once you got it it would kill anything that might be on it anyway so I would do it.

Overall, I'm not eating out as much as I did 6 months ago bc I'm on a health quest.
We also spent almost $200 on food, cleaning crap, pet food, and meds before going into seclusion.

That being said, I've bought some gift cards to save for later. And we've worked some take out into the menu this week. Tomorrow night is Vietnamese.

I'm also with the PP in that we're focused on the restaurants they have always been clean with no health dept issues.

I just ran out and got chicken from one place and pizza from Round Table across the way just now. But, this is probably the last time I'll get takeout for a while.

I would buy gift cards and tip the workers that help you. That's me though. I am very very selective on where I eat and prefer to just cook my own .

The point about heating up the food is a great one though. Just wash hands good after handling everything associated with the pizza pickup.

Perhaps, but I figure I can wash the food I buy at the grocery store and Iím the one who cuts/preps/cooks my food. I think weíre in uncharted waters and Iím just giving my opinion. Iím not judging or telling others what to do.

I would do curbside pickup or no-contact delivery right now from family Owen restaurants. Most of the restaurants in my area have closed dining rooms anyway.

about the virus and food. You can all decide for yourselves. I rarely eat out in our area and since I am home it is a great time to cook and bake. So, I am not going to give advice.

Restaurants here are also only being able to offer pick up and/or delivery. I want to support our regular go to places. None of them are chainsóall local family owned places or neighbourhood pubs. Iím going to go in to a couple of them and buy gift certificates. They get the $$ to help their business now and I will get a dinner out when this is over.

Many are not accepting cash either. I would use ďtapĒ debit.

We have been ordering take out.....probably shouldnít but I tell myself I am helping the local economy. I even had my cleaning lady come yesterday. My house needed cleaning, she needs work, she cleans up after herself .

We havenít changed too much lately. Iíve always been a hermit, my DH is on night shift so he just works and sleeps- my biggest changes are not having my kidís friends over and insisting that everyone wash their hands with soap and water prior to entering the house (my laundry room sink is right by the door everyone uses)- oh and I actually had to go to a store to get pasta, milk, flour, and wine. Normally I have groceries delivered, but they stopped delivery service!

We are still doing take-out/drive-thrus, but I did just see a recommendation to remove it from the packaging it came in and to wash your hands after you dispose of it and before you eat. I never think of things like that until someone points them out.
