Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hey Everyone,
I am currently a 2nd grade teacher and just found out that I will be moving to 5th grade next year. This is a decision from my principal and not from me! Anyway, I am very nervous because I have only taught 1st and 2nd. If anyone has pictures of their classroom that they would like to share, I think that it will help me to get a better idea of what a 5th grade classroom looks like. I have been into the rooms at my school, but they don't have much hanging and their rooms look Blah!

Thanks for all of your help!

Deb

Taught 7th, not 5th. But reading your comments about the 5th grade classrooms at your school, I think you found the reason your princ. is moving you - to get some energy into 5th grade there.

You'll enjoy 5th - it's especially nice when you realize the thinking ability they have by that time. And you can really show the others how to create an interesting classroom environment. Good luck!

You will love grade five. It is not much different then grade two, just more indpendant. unfortunately I can't attach pictures yet, but I set my classroom in groups, I have a reading corner with an old leather chair that they love to sit in. I still have a carpet area that they still love to sit in but I do more group desk work then anything else. Grade five is great because you can give them that independancy and have them actually do it. They also get sarcasim and its a lot of fun. if you need help later on just let me know and you can e-mail me I'll send anything I have. Good luck.

You are going to love it! A couple years ago I went from 2nd to fifth. Don't get me wrong, the first year was trial and error but now I WOULD NEVER go back to primary!!! I will try to upload pictures for you as soon as I can...if you send me your email it may be easier!

from 2 years ago. Pretty much the same, but I have more students this year, so more desks.

So happy for you! This is my first year in 5th and I also taught 2nd and student taught in 1st. 5th is wonderful. I was so nervous but am so glad that I made the switch.
The only thing that I do not like is that my classroom is the size of a peanut. It is really tiny! I do not have any pictures but I will see about getting you some.

I was told at this same time last year that I would be moving from 3rd to 5th. This was not my choice but I LOVE 5th graders! Our 5th grade is in a middle school building but I brought my elementary touch with me! Here are a few pictures:

5th Grade

I would say decorate just like you do now, just a little more mature. I taught 5th grade for 3 years and one teacher who had taught for a number of years always told me she enjoyed coming to my room. She said she had never seen a fifth grade teacher that it made it fun for the kids. By that age, they start making their rooms boring, but those kids enjoy the decorations too. We always had a school theme and I would really get into it. I always wanted younger grades & didn't think I would enjoy 5th but there was so much we could do that I can't do now in the younger grades. I agree with one of the post, they are probably moving you to add some spunk to fifth grade. Hope you enjoy your year with them! They are just like the younger ones only in bigger bodies. I was always surprised at how much they enjoyed stickers and tatoos!
