Chick Hatching

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi,

I have hatched chicks many times when I taught Kindergarten. Now in fifth grade, and with the common core standards the activity is just as appropriate in fifth grade. However, I am looking for more sophisticated worksheets, etc. for this grade level. I would like to go into more depth discussing not just the chick life cycle but also embryo stages and the parts of a cell, etc. Can anyone recommend a resource?

Cracking Eggs has a good deal of fluff, but I like this page for the parts of an egg -

http://www.crackingeggs.co.uk/whatsin_hard.php#

Next is a good resource for teacher background information -

http://urbanext.illinois.edu/eggs/res27-timing.html

Finally, a good place to use for instruction, as the links take you to definitions for each word as they relate to chicken embryology -

http://www.sites.ext.vt.edu/virtualf...elopment.html#

The link for "embryo" at that last site even has a short video clip of an embryo moving inside the egg.
