'Step Up to Writing' in Kinder?

I purchased Randy Bergan book and also Kidwriting this summer...but my new school is forming a committee to actually research a schoolwide writing program as of yesterday. Several were thrown out for discussion and Step Up along with 6 Traits were mentioned, but nothing in stone. A vertical collaboration group will probably evolve and in the meantime I googled Step Up. Up popped PT so I read everything that was said on this site back in 2006. So what are you guys saying now about any of this? I am only dealing with K so maybe there are some X-upper grades or mid-range teachers that could input too, as far as the 'down-the-road' needs of our kid writers. TIA.

See what the new writing program is like, but...I would guess some elements may be similar and you can see from this board, Kidwriting and Randee Bergen are much more successful for kindergarten....I'd be tempted to shut my door and do what I know is best for this age.

isn't this interesting that now my new P is wondering about a specific program to actually help all the grades? I also was lent a book from a good friend (next door neighbor & resource specialist for a different district) called "Talking, Drawing, Writing" My new school is actually cool about 'closing the door' in some aspects, and even vering away from the baseline curriculum to some extent. I just want my kids to keep progressing (year to year) and last year's school didn't do that for me, my own research did. So maybe I may end up representing kinder on that committee and throw out our 2 fave books to see what takes!

writing in kindergarten for me to switch to anything but Kidwriting and Randee Bergen's book. I also have Talking, Drawing, and Writing. I am yet to see a school-wide program that is as successful as Kidwriting for the early years. I like six traits, but feel it is better understood and more successful beginning with second grade on up. I do think it is important to use the terminology beginning in k if you go with a school wide program so they will transition easily to 6 Traits, Step Up, etc.
