I promised no more, but am subbing for a friend

A friend of mine is retiring this year. Because I spent much of my school year in 3 different long term sub jobs, I only subbed a couple of days in her room. She needs to take a personal day before school gets out. I told her I had to count my days. I do have 1 day, so I'm subbing for her. I have a feeling that next year, when she's subbing, we'll be battling for jobs. It would be fun to be subbing there at the same time. It's a wonderful school with helpful teachers, so I'm happy to be going back one more time this year. She teaches second grade. I remember the students well, so it will be fun.

No one who knows you from this board is surprised that you took “just one more” sub job. . Sounds like this really will be the last one this year. Have fun and enjoy the kids.

to spend your last available day--in both senses of "spend."

I hope your friend feels free to take all the days to which she is entitled even if you can't sub for her. I still wish I'd taken more of mine. We were supposed to get paid 50% for unused days, ended up getting almost 25% because of so many retiring that year and dollar caps on paying off sick leave.

Enjoy.

It will be a half day job. My friend is going to the hospital with her MIL and will stay while she is in surgery. She'll be back before lunch, which is good. Field Day is in the afternoon. I told her she could stay and I'd do Field Day (not a favorite of mine), but she wants to spend the afternoon with her students. I totally understand.
