Video taping book commercials

I saw this idea on an earlier post about projects:

[Each person chooses a book or author we studied during the year. They write a commercial persuading viewers to go out and read the book or books. Once the script is written, a student may invite others to be in their commercial.]

I am thinking my class will need to work in groups to begin with and maybe choose a story we've read together?? Any additional ideas would be helpful! Thanks!

I did this same project last year for the first time.
I had my students make a cereal box to advertise their book/author. They named their cereal based on the novel/author, made an activity for the back, and included nutritional facts on the sides. The students were very creative as they really enjoyed this. Most of my comercials were done indivudally, however, I had a few students that wanted other "actors" in their commericals.

I was fortunate enough to have a flip camera to record the students' comericals. This made it very easy because all I had to do was plug the flip camera into the usb port of the computer and it automatically importated the video.

I saw this video at a conference and laughed forever. It was done by kindergarteners, but the organization would hold for any grade level. Look here before you do your commercials for some good ideas.

Book Commercials (Trailers)

Amy,
I do book trailers (like movie trailers) with my students. Here is a great site with a collection of student produced work.

http://www.homepages.dsu.edu/mgeary/...rs/default.htm

Also, if you so a search on uTube for book trailers you will see lots of them. There are some really terrific ones by High School kids (The Secret Life of Bees is a popular one).

Hope that helps,
Ann
