Looking for Skype buddies for next year!

I have been wanting to find a Skype buddy class for awhile now but for some reason it didn't even dawn on me to ask here on PT. Duh me!

I teach 5th grade here in Phoenix, AZ. This year I have about 20 kids and next year I'm not quite sure of my number but it will probably be around there again. I actually teach the structured english immersion class. Many of my students are basic english speakers and many of them are now working on better conversational skills and grammar, etc. My kids are pretty high in the language arena, so it won't be a tricky situation with translating or anything like that. I'm just looking for a class who would be interested in becoming modern day pen pals for my group of kiddos.

If you're interested in starting this with me next year, please definitely message me!

Hi,
We are in Pittsburgh...will have 22 kids next year. Mixed SES...low to middle. Mix of caucasian and African-American kids.
Different enough cities that it could be interesting.
Let me know.

Hi,

I teach 5th grade in MA. I will have about 25 students next year. We will be getting a Promethean board in our room, too. I would love to Skype with you.

Awesome! Could you both send me your personal emails or work email addresses in a pm? I'll get a hold of you and we can start figuring out how we will work all of this out!

How exciting!!! Talk to you both soon.

Skype is a type of chatting program where you can see a nice and clear picture of each person on the other side of the computer...as long as there is a camera there. It's like video-chat, but you have to have the program downloaded, rather than through the Internet, like let's say Yahoo Messenger or Google Chat.

Thanks for explaining! I'll have to see if we have hardware and the ability to do that... or anything like it.

I want in! I actually just got 12 laptops for my classroom and would love to use them to help students learn how to write and email and compare the difference between emails and friendly letters.

So I would love Skype Buddies and Email Buddies =)

I have to admit though, I am new to Skype, so I want to practice.

Would anyone be interested in doing email or Skype Buddies in June, the last few weeks of school?

I figure I can test out my new unit on introducing technology to the class and this will keep the kids highly motivated during the last few weeks.

email me if you are interested.

Yes I am interested in becoming your skype buddy for next year. I currently have 22 fifth grade students and would have about the same next year. We currently are working on a project with students from Warwick, SD using skype. We are reading the novel When you Reach Me and we are having a book discussion through skype. I would be willing to do that project again next year. The children are really enjoying this project. My skype name is desireewhite27.
