3 Ways to Read a Book

Clip to ScrapBook #1

For the 3 ways to read a book lesson I have noticed that a lot of people use the book "Look! I Can Read!" I was wondering if anyone used a different book that worked well with this lesson. I teach 2nd grade and kind of thought this book might be too much of an early reader for my kiddos.

Thank you for all your help! I think I am a PT addict!! You guys are amazing!

With my 2nd graders, I used a big book. I think just about anything with a simple story that the pictures match will work. I can't think of the name of the book I used, but it was about a frog jumping out of a pond and the different animals it saw. It was pretty simple!

The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear. It lends itself well to this lesson because the little mouse in the story is so expressive so it's easy to read the pictures. It is such a cute book. I made the attached document to post to remind students of the lesson.

I taught this lesson today and I used Arthur's Reading Race. I think it worked out very well. Tomorrow we will work on the retelling part. I did realize after the kids left that we forgot to add our "Check Understanding" on our CAFE board. oops! Guess we will add it tomorrow when we review.
