I am interviewing for a Pre-kindergarten position and the principal at the school has stated that she wants me to do a 10 minute literacy lesson. Does any one have a sample lesson or any ideas as to what I could do?

I would read a story and then do a craft with it..

What about where the wild things are and make paper bag monster puppets?

Make sure you pick a story you really enjoy.

What about chicka chicka boom boom? Have each child make a coconut tree (you cut the pieces out of construction paper ahead of time) and at the bottom have them glue a writing prompt that says "My name is ____________________. I have _______ letters in my name." This would tie in some math. It may take more than 10 though.

What about reading a poem and acting it out. I like the polar bear one by shel silverstein. You could read it to the kids then have the children help you think of an action for each line. Have the poem on chart paper. After you have come up with an action for each line, read through it a final time (or two if they are enjoying it) while acting it out.
Bear In There by Shel Silverstein
There's a Polar Bear
In our Frigidaire--
He likes it 'cause it's cold in there.
With his seat in the meat
And his face in the fish
And his big hairy paws
In the buttery dish,
He's nibbling the noodles,
He's munching the rice,
He's slurping the soda,
He's licking the ice.
And he lets out a roar
If you open the door.
And it gives me a scare
To know he's in there--
That Polary Bear
In our Fridgitydaire.
