I usually bring along an end of the day reward for the class if they have a good day. What kinds of things would 5th graders enjoy? Any certain game, activity, etc.? Thanks. What would motivate them to have a good day?

When I taught 5th, the biggest motivator was extra outside recess time. Other than that, I kept Connect 4, UNO, Legos, and dominoes in the classroom and they all saw plenty of use! Mine always loved to be read aloud to, too, but that might be hard to do in a sub setting.

Extra recess is a HUGE motivator. Works every time. As long as you're consistent.

With my extra chatty classes, I started offering them five minutes of free "social time" at the end of class... IF they received fewer than five reprimands for talking out, across the room, etc. They LOVED it. I LOVED it, so we all left the class less frustrated and in better moods
