Does anyone have any fun ideas for St. Patrick's Day? I would love to tie in math or science with it.

We have graphed cups of Lucky Charms cereal. We also usually do money in math which relates to the pot of gold of the leprechaun. For art, we have made leprechauns with accordian legs. On the bulletin board, I make them look like they are jumping around, upside down and sideways. I call it "leaping lephrechauns".

Can you post a picture of the accordion leprechauns and directions? They sound cute and I would love to make that into a center for my first graders! Thanks!

Have you studied simple machines?

Your class could build Leprechaun traps. They may be too old to believe in leprechauns, but I bet they would still have fun with the assignment. I assigned my students to do this as a home project, but you could work as teams in class as well. I told mine they could use one of the six simple machine we had studied if they liked, but it was not required. For fourth graders you might want to make it mandatory. Then maybe you could share them with the younger classes. Just an idea.
