Pen Pals

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I know there have already been a lot of posts about having pen pals but I was getting overwhelmed with all the different posts so I thought I would post my own.

I would like to pen pal with a class that is from another state (I'm from PA). I will have 19 third graders (possibility of adding more students through the year) and we live in a very rural school district by Lake Erie. I would love to pen pal with someone who lives in a completely different school environment than ours. I'd hopefully like to write to each other about 3-4 times throughout the year starting in September. Our first writing unit is letting writing and I would like to include our pen pals in that unit. Thanks!

I would love to do this with you. I teach in Fullerton, CA and I have 30 students, possibly 32. If I haven't scared you away with the number , I thought we could assign 2 penpals from my class to 1 penpal in your class. If you think it is too much for your kiddos, I completely understand.

If you haven't already found penpals; I have 19 students and teach in a suburb of Atlanta, GA.

I would love to be pen pals with both of you! Maybe the three of us could be pen pals with each other. I'm not how to personal message each other because I know we are not allowed to put our email addresses on here. Does anyone know how to pm?

I will have 19 students this year in my third grade class. So if it isn't too late, I would like to join.

Thanks!

how does this work?
Old 08-04-2010, 05:56 PM

So how do we all want this to work now that we've signed up to be pen pals? Are we all going to write to each other? Do we each want to rotate writing to someone else from our group? Sorry I'm so confused but this is my first time ever doing pen pals and I'm really not sure how everyone wants this to work. Any suggestions would be great!

i've never done pen pals either, but i think it'd be sort of nice for them to have the same pen pal all year. however, i'm open to rotating if that's what the majority want to do.

same all year

I agree with having the same all year. We could write whole class letters to the other schools who maybe weren't our one-on-one pen pals. That way we would get to learn about other schools but our kiddos wouldn't be responsible for writing to multiple pen pals. What does everyone think?

more ideas

I agree that we should have the pen pals all year. Another idea on how to do this....we could pair up the classes that have close to the same class sizes and then split the kids who didn't get assigned a pen pal with another class. Obviously, it would be easier on everyone if we can figure out a way where we are all assigned 1 class. That would be ideal! Another idea, is maybe one class wouldn't mind having 2 pen pals from my class since I have a larger class. I know that I have a lot of kiddos. I looked at my class list and right now I have 33 ( don't worry....I can't have more than 32) I would love to have 1 class but I wouldn't mind being the one who has 2 classes for pen pals

I'm flexible to however the majority vote. I do like having the same penpals. We could match up by class size. Since my class is from New Jersey it would be nice to have penpals from different region, but if that doesn't work, that's okay.

I agreed with everyone's messages so far.

I have 19 students and perhaps songsingers class would be very different from my own and the same class size. Thirdteacher, we have a similar class size but I think since I live in PA and you live in NJ that is probably very similar.

Since Iuv3rdgrade, the songsinger, and theteach123 were the original three that were going to team up, I can team up with ve7104 since she and I joined in later. Does that work?

Pen pals
Old 08-05-2010, 08:17 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #14

I would love for my classes to have pen pals from another state or states.
The only problem is that I have two language arts classes with 18 students each. We are departamentalized where I teach LA (reading, writing, and social studies) and the other teacher teaches math and science. We switch right after lunch...we have both of our classes for 2 hrs and 40 mins. each. It works really well and the kids love it...so do we!

Anyway, so I have 2 classes with 18 each. Is anyone willing to be pen pals with me...I would need probably 2 classes?

I teach in FL and would love to have someone from another state!

Is it too late for me to join in? I answered to another post for penpals, but never got a response. I'm in North Carolina and teach at a school on an Army post, so the kiddos all have parents in the military. I think this would be an awesome experience for them =)

Penpals

Hey rsjrdrsr...

I have a 3rd grade class, and will most likely have 33 students this year - I know it's so crazy how many kids we shove in these California classrooms.

Since I won't quite have 36, I can just have a few of my GATE students double up.

I teach at Beechwood School in Fullerton, CA...and we start on August 30th. I'd love it if we could commit to writing once a month. I've done this before with other teachers and they had their class write once and then disappeared. So, I'm hoping we can keep it up this year because it's so fun for the kids!

My personal email is blairslug@gmail.com Let's work it out!!
