ThirdNerd is correct. I am so afraid that when I go to school tomorrow, it will not be to teach, but to picket. We have only been in school for 4 days. Many people feel that it is about money, but it isn't. For instance, we have 3 full-day kindergarten classes with more than 33 kids and no aide. This whole issue is about fairness to the kids and ourselves.

and know that you are supported across the country by your fellow teachers. Also take heart in that the last two times my district was in negotiations, we were set to strike and it was averted in the 11th hour.

Teachers in Milwaukee Public Schools will wear Red in Solidarity to support you... our kids deserve much better! We are also contributing to ease some financial woes too! Students in MPS are also suffering with drastic budget cut due to our greed driven governor. Be grateful for your union and collective bargaining...we don't have that power anymore.

THanks for all the support. As you all know, this is about much more than payraises. The constant disrespect, the money being siphoned away to Charter schools, the class size, etc. I bet Rahm's happy that he at least got his speech in at the Convention.

Good luck and stay strong. There are many school districts around this country that are in the same predicament as you (including us). Here in CA, we are waiting to see if Prop 30 is going to pass, that will keep us from additional cuts. If it doesn't pass, I really hate to think what is going to happen. Scary!

Stand strong, Chicago teachers! I'm not sure what the significance is but this Canadian teacher will wear red for you tomorrow. We were in the same position as you last year. We didn't walk the line until March but it was nasty. The politicians and the media painted us as bad guys and made it all about the money. Sadly, the public isn't interested in hearing the real issues around educating the children.

Stand strong, Chicago teachers!

Speaking of Rahm...he was sited at the Springsteen concert this weekend! And at a neighborhood festival. Don't you think he's got better things to do!! While we worry about the kids...he's out there enjoying himself and campaigning!!

You're support is so appreciated! We are laying our red shirts out tonight. We need to be in front of our school tomorrow at 6:30am with our picket signs.

Remember we stand strong together!! We are doing this for the kids!!

Don't mean to be naive, but why red? I'm in Ca and we are really hurting. In my district our kinder teachers just went to full day, no aide and have 35 kids in each class. All other grade levels are bursting at the seams too. Barely a classroom budget to speak of and we aren't allowed to ask for supplies, but can suggest donations. You know how that can go. Other issues too, you can imagine. Hopefully prop 30 passes. It is such a sad state of affairs. Thinking of all you Chicago teachers what a terrible position to have to be in. Stay strong!
