Clip to ScrapBook #1

Ok, I know this is super early to start planning for next year, but I've been starting my new schedule for this fall because I'm a teacher nerd like that!
I'm going to have a super small class and have somehow ended up w/ some extra time at the end of the day and don't know what to do with it! I've never had this problem before and don't know what to do, usually it's the other way around!!

Here's my schedule, any ideas that come to any of you??

Schedule

8-8:20- DOL & journal
8:20-8:40- PE
8:45- 1st mini Lesson (comprehension/reading strategy)
8:50-1st round of D5
9:25- 2nd mini lesson (spelling, word work, phonics)
9:30- 2nd round of D5
9:55- 3rd mini lesson (writing, grammar, punctuation, etc)
10:05- 3rd round of D5
10:30- Music
10:50- 6 min. solutions, phonics
11:30-12:15 LUNCH AND RECESS
12:25- Math
1:30- Social studies or science
2:00- Snack and story
2:15-2:50 ????
2:55- Dismissal

I would suggest increasing the time you spend on the current blocks of time. More time for reading and writing. I need longer than 5 minutes to do mini-lessons and your kids might need longer than 25 minutes for each round of Daily 5 (especially as the year progresses). Do you feel you have enough time to meet with readers and writers? I schedule about 50 minutes for Writing Workshop and about 90 minutes for reading/word study. I don't know what 6 min solutions, phonics is. You could also extend Science / SS time. Hope these ideas help.

with gardener5 on the suggestions given. You could also possibly use some of the time for review/remedial work needed or even introductions to new concepts.

Recess time?

We have morning and afternoon recess for 15 minutes each, in addition to the lunch recess. Do you do PE and music everyday? I would extend the SS/S time to 45 min. to an hour. You are ahead of the game. I would attempt a schedule but we are not given our times for recess and lunch until just before school starts.

.. but my Daily 5 book has not arrived yet so I am not sure, but aren't there supposed to be 5 rounds of Daily 5? I only see 3 on your schedule. Like I said I could be way off base.

If not then I would do like the pp suggested and add to the times you have alloted for each componet of your day.
