I need my CA experts! I am ready to book a Besf Western Plus in National City, South Bay, for a mini vacation. We will have a rental car. Is this a nice area to stay in?

I wouldn't go near National City unless I was very familiar with the neighborhood and know exactly where I was going and it was a very nice sunny day with cops around

I would not stay in National City. Did you try Hotel Circle/Mission Valley area?

This is why I love you guys! Where should I be looking? Carlsbad? Or actually IN San Diego?

Thank you SO much!

I am using Expedia, and I need to navigate pages of hotels. I'll see what they have listed and see which ones get the PT seal of approval!

Hotel Circle would be a good place to stay. There are many hotels to choose from. Plus there are signs to tell you where it is. My son and his fiancÚ stayed at one of the chains and it was fine.

It depends what you want to do/where you want to be near. Right now traffic is very heavy so if you wanted to go to the downtown area from Carlsbad you would have to plan time for travel south depending on the time of day. I love Carlsbad! The village is a nice little place and a great home base if you don't mind driving in traffic.

If you want to be close to downtown for access to Old Town, Seaport Village, the Gaslamp, La Jolla etc. I would try Hotel Circle/Mission Valley area. Comic Con is July 9-12 so it will be crowded and hotels will probably be a little more pricey.

Feel free to pm me. LOVE my hometown of SD.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is Hotel Circle? Is that a town, or part of San Diego? I don't see that listed on the options.

Hotel Circle is an area with a lot of hotels - it is in the Mission Valley area.

I'm all booked! Usually my DH does our reservations, so I am feeling quite accomplished! Thanks for all your help, especially rebeccav, who was very patient with all my pms about specific hotels! (Although I am probably delegated to her SPAM folder now- )

Thanks, everyone!

I'm late to this game, but I wanted to add my 2 cents. That area is perfect--very nice, and centrally located/accessible to all freeways. I think you'll be happy with that choice.

When are you going? My DH is in San Diego right now with the Navy. There is a big exercise going on for the next couple of weeks.

Love San Diego. My husband goes out there twice per year for his Navy training! I always try to go along! He goes once in the winter and once in the late Spring!

Have fun!
