So I'm having a serious case of wanting to go to Hawaii. It is so bad that I'm heart sick about it. I've been there like 6 years ago, but paying for 4 people is ridiculously expensive. Do any of you get this type of yearning?

Yes. But not to go to Hawai'i. To leave it. Paying for 5 people to leave is also ridiculously expensive.

Where do Hawaiians go when they go on vacation? Somewhere stressful, like NYC? (Where I live, FYI)

Having just returned last month from Maui, I can certainly understand! All the cliches come to mind: dream vacation, paradise. Those are not understatements.

My sister is going to Kauai in October and they are staying at an old plantation with cottages that is cheaper than a resort on a fancy beach--but it is beautiful. They bring what they can and also buy groceries (I thought the ABC market was reasonable) and cook rather than going out. We flew out on Wednesday, May 30 because when I looked at a chart of air fares for the week after school was out, that was the cheapest day and the fares started going up up in June. Maybe if you search around and plan you could manage something a bit less than ridiculously expensive for next year??

I definitely get yearnings for the beaches of California, which we can drive to in a day, But especially a trip I took last fall to visit college girlfriends. I would give anything to re-live that experience.

I've never been and dream about going. My husband has no real interest in going (yes he is nuts!).

Yes, I too have a yearning to travel! I love Hawaii, but would love to visit other places too. When I was a poor, broke student/single mom, I thought teachers made a lot of money and that once I was a teacher I would be able to travel on my summers off.

I've been telling my husband for two years that we need to go back to Hawaii. It's been 6 years for us, too, and I also get heart sick about going. Hawaii and Scotland are the only two places that make me feel like that, though. I yearn to go so badly that it hurts!!

Crazy, huh?

Same as Grace- I also live in Hawaii and it is so hard to go anywhere else! My kids haven't been off the island (except that my older two went to Oahu) in seven years! We are leaving TOMORROW for a two week vacation and I can't wait!

To answer someone else's question, in my experience the most popular vacations for people who live here are to Las Vegas, Disney World, and Alaska. Or they go to wherever their family is, which is what I'm doing.

I, too, yearn for Hawaii, but especially for my DD and GDDs who live there. I just got back from Oahu 12 days ago, and I miss them already so much. I try to visit at least once every 4 or 5 months.

As an avid traveler, I yearn to travel everywhere. It doesn't matter where, as long as I get to experience new things. After Hawaii, I was in Washington DC for 10 days, and experienced their recordbreaking heat wave and killer storm before returning home yesterday to lovely SoCal temps (75 F).
