You have whole year to savor the “lasts”. If things get tough, or your class gives you trouble, it’s the last. I put my retirement letter in October two years ago. I so enjoyed the long goodbye. Good luck to you.

...enjoy your years of "lasts." It is really nice to savor the last first day of school, the last open house, the last dance chaperoning, etc. It makes the year go by fast and makes the bad days better knowing it's the last of them (smile!)

I did something like this for my last year. It’s a fun way to “count down” the days.

I think I am right there with you. There is a tiny bit of lingering doubt and guilt. It's scary to think of this big change that lies ahead.

I have prayed for signs of whether or not it is time. It is getting clearer and clearer.

It's hard to keep my mouth closed about it. I still have tons of stress about the new evaluation instrument and the professional goal setting requirement. Why should I even have anxiety??? I still feel like I need to do the best job I can.

My friend made a "lasts" calendar which included:
--last parent conferences.
--last field trip.
--last Christmas program.
--last curriculum meeting.
--last staff meeting.

Etc., etc., etc.

Another thought...

...I ended up purging as I went...files, handouts, tests, etc...as I used them, I threw them out. I did keep a couple of binders of one or two copies of every handout that I thought I might use if I decided to teach again or tutor in the future.
I started putting on the faculty room table anything I thought they might be able to use, such as staplers, books, office supplies, etc. It was actually fun to find things that I thought others might want, and seek them out to give them the supplies.
I cleaned out my desk the last month.
I had a countdown calendar - found it on the internet and posted it on my desk and counted down the days. It came in handy during tough weeks (smile!) The last day was graduation, and it was very emotional for me.
I hope you can enjoy every day, the good and the bad...if you are like me, they will all have their good memories after you are through (smile!)

LuvsPixieDust, I could have written your post except the stress about the eval system. I have a new P this year and so far so good. I just keep thinking, am I crazy to keep working with all the s*** that comes with it when I can be retired? Our finances are all set if I do so why am I so ambivalent???

I think my ambivolence is because teaching is all I have ever done besides my college jobs. I don't enjoy the subject I am teaching. Last night my husband talked with someone who wants to hire me to work in their doctor's office when I retire. They need me now actually. So... I just got another answered prayer.

And the stage 4 kidney disease is something I am dealing with. I felt great over the summer, but the past few weeks, not so great. I have to wonder if stress is the reason I am not feeling great.

I will have enough sick days to go in Decemember, but I would feel really guilty about leaving mid year.

I truly love my all co-workers.
