Reader's notebook - vocab

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Does anyone have a vocab. section in their reader's notebook? I am trying to decide how I want to go about this. I would like my students to find words in their IR books to add to this section, but I'll also be teaching the vocab. from the basal. Just trying to figure out the easiest way to organize everything.

I have a section called "Powerful Words and Phrases". I'm not using the basal vocab in this section, just what they find in their own reading.

greek/ latin roots and vocab maps

My students use this section for recording our greek/ latin root activities and create vocab maps for our basal words and our root focus words.

They also record our prefix/ suffix activities and have a word collector form for wow words and a personal word wall.

In the past, I have also used this section for Spelling word work activities. The students have a choice board and are required to complete 2-3 activities from the board per week.

Vocabulary and Word Study Notebook

We have a separate word study notebook. Toward the back we have a section for personal new words. When students find a new word in their independent reading, they list it and the sentence from their book. We discuss their new words during reading group time, and select a word a day for the class to learn. We define it, and add it to a class chart.
