Please help! Another teacher and I disagree. What part of speech is the word leader in the following sentence? Is it an adjective or a noun?

He was a great leader.

Thank you!

Leader is the noun and great is the adjective that describes the leader.

Agree with GiantSubs. Predicate noun, also known as a predicate nominative.

Thank you! I've been in Kindergartenland for a long time, but I was pretty sure it wasn't an adjective!

I think she was thinking the leader, preacher, writer, etc. were describing him. She usually knows her stuff, so I'll cut her some slack. I knew I wasn't nuts, though.
