Short story:

Friends are coming over. First time we've had anyone over to the house since March. (We're actually going to be eating outside by a fire, but want it clean in case they need to come in to go to the bathroom.)

Husband idea of helping to clean is to do everything in the world that DOESN'T need to be done.

I'm all, "Let's just clean what they're going to see!" and he's like,

"But under the fridge needs to be vacuumed." or

"This box I've needed to mail for a year? I'm going to prep it right now." or

"This pile that's been on the desk for years? I'm going to go through it and get it organized!"

Last time we had anyone over, my husband decided rooms needed to be painted! Drives me crazy!

This happens here as well. My husband wants to do the type of chores that not only are not urgent, but leave a gigantic mess that I end up having to clean up as well as all the things I was already having to do.

I remember my DH calling me while I was on my way home from work one day.

He was all excited saying, "You are going to be so impressed, I cleaned all day for YOU!"

I came home and there were still dishes in the sink and laundry in the hamper.

He had cleaned the GARAGE... for ME!

My sister's husband always seems to need to mow the lawn when company is due. In fact he will mow as the BBQ is beginning.

Yep. My husband sealed the concrete on the front porch the night we brought our son home from the hospital.

He repeatedly waits to take a shower until it is time for guests to arrive.

He insisted we clean out the garage on our son's birthday and the day before a major vacation.

I'll never understand his timing.

It seems like so many men fall into this category.

Ladies- maybe we should use this to our advantage. Have people over more often (or at least pretend like they are coming over.)

My husband is not like that at all. He knows what needs to be done around the house and does it. Since I work more than he does, he takes care of most of the house cleaning. I am a better cleaner, but he does it and I canít complain about that.
