When do you read?

Someone posted this questions on the monthly what are you reading post. I read before bed and on the weekends. I also listen to books in the car. My commute is about 45 minutes - hour each way, so I listen to a lot of books, although lately I have been listening to a lot of podcasts.

Wow thats great you get to read that much . When I was teaching I could barely read fun articles during the school year.

I belonged to a retired teachers book club and we met every other month. I had to rush to finish. In the summer I did manage to read at least one professional book. Now that I am newly retired I read on the weekends. I would love to join a virtual book group in the future.

I will be reading professional books for my institute in the near future

Fun question!

I read on my Kindle:
*at least an hour before bed
*about an hour while I eat lunch

I listen to a book on my phone:
*while I walk, about 2 hours daily

I read in the bathtub a couple of hours before bed. During school breaks if it's not too hot or too cold I read on the patio. And in the summer when I have time I read in bed until early in the morning.
My favorite place to read is on the beach. But that is only once a year (if I'm lucky).

I read on weekends and sometimes when I get home from school on my porch when it's warm enough. I read all summer, several hours a day.

I can't read in bed if I want to be able to read more than about 5 pages.

I read my fun stuff in bed nightly. I can't remember the last time I went to bed without reading. That's always whatever book I have chosen just because I want to read it. Often mysteries, but I also like memoirs, some nonfiction (often about medicine), and a variety of fiction.

And then there's my "assigned reading". I'm in an adult Spanish class and we read books, currently the Spanish version of How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent. Since I need to look up some of the words, I generally do that reading over a couple of afternoons, usually comfortably seated in my recliner.

When do you read?

Any time I have a few moments, often at lunch (which is not mindful eating in the least), in the afternoon, before bed, when Iím waiting in line or waiting for an appointment.

My kindle goes where I go. I read all day long.

And, when I am on vacation in the mountains, I read a book a day.

I read a ton over school breaks. Growing up, my family would all sit around in the living room and read. When I visit home, we still do that . I like reading, but it's tough for me to make time for it when school is in session. When I get home, I just want to turn off my brain and TV sounds better! I love my book club so I do make sure to read that book every month. Even though I swear every time I'll get better, what happens is that about a week before book club, I figure out what percentage of the book I need to read in my kindle each day in order to finish it by book club day. Then usually I read whatever that percentage is after dinner every day.

I have always been a voracious reader but I also have such a difficult time reading during the school year. I do read on weekends but struggle during the week as I just want to relax and turn my brain off when I get home.

On breaks, in the bath tub when I have time, and on the toilet.

Now I read at night on the couch,, usually after 10p.m. In the summer, Iíll read outside in the afternoon. When I was working, I did most of my recreational reading on breaks and during the summer.

Pretty much daily when I get home and need to relax, in bed, plus anytime I'm standing in line for something or waiting in the car for someone. My favorite time to read is Sat and Sun mornings in bed. I just stay until I'm starving.

I read while I walk on the treadmill every day and then in bed before falling asleep. I will periodically read in spurts throughout the dayó- depending on how much I am into the book. I always read with my Kindle app on my iPad mini.

My favorite time/place to read is when we are traveling and driving somewhere. I love reading in the car. I know others get car sick, but I don't. I just love it. Growing up, we never had the tvs/portable DVD players/etc. and we traveled a lot. I'd bring suitcases full of books, and I'd just read the whole time. I still love doing that.

Otherwise, I read a lot during the summer and on weekends. Sometimes I read before bed.

Lately, I read when I can't sleep at 3:30 or 4:00 AM. Seems like any other time I'm awake, I'm dealing with work stuff. This covid and remote and all the crap is not healthy!

I rarely have the brain power to read during the school year, but during the summer I go through piles of books. I read during the afternoon sitting in my favorite chair, then I'll move out to my poolside chaise lounge. I read at night until I fall asleep. I even read in my 'reading room' on my throne.

I listen to books:
- While I'm getting ready in the morning. (I used to listen to the news, but for the last few years it's just made me so mad that after the update I switch over to a book.)
- Morning and evening walks with the dog.
- Anytime I'm in the car. (Rarely, these days.)
- While I'm cooking, cleaning, gardening.

I read books:
- At lunch time - now that I'm teaching from home and don't have to cram a trip to the copier, office, and bathroom into 25 minutes.
- An hour or so in the evening before bed.
- For five minutes in bed.
- On the weekends throughout the day whenever I can.

I read all the time. When I brush my teeth, when I wake up, when I go to sleep, when I'm eating, when I have more than 1 minute to myself. I think I've said that here before, but my mom used to get so mad at me for reading while I swept the kitchen floor

I have worked 70-hour weeks when I had 3-4 jobs at a time, and I still found time to read a book a week at least.

I listen to books while mowing, sewing, and when in the car for any distance.

I read in the evening before bed and sometimes during lunchtime.

when I read

Typically in bed at night. Often, I read until I fall asleep.
Sometimes during the day if I'm really into a book and reward myself after my chores.

In the winter, I'm imagining (since I'm now retired) many days sitting by the wood stove curled up with a great read!

Reading time
Old 10-08-2020, 08:33 AM

I go through stages. If I have a book that is so riveting that I can’t stop, I will read it whenever I have time, morning, noon, evening. It helps that I am retired.
If it is a book club required reading that I may not find as appealing, I will read it an hour a day after dinner and hope I will finish it before the meeting. I will also read for half an hour or so before I go to sleep, usually some interesting non-fiction.
During my walks/runs/cooking/gardening I listen to podcasts.

I read during the day here and there and for about an hour before I turn off the lights for the night. I listen to books as well during my morning walk.
