Does anyone have a parent letter they could share with me that introduces CR? Anyone have any thoughts about this program?

I think the program materials come with a letter to parents though I don't remember at the moment. I have all levels of the program and have seen nothing but tremendous success with it. I recommend getting the training to implement it to its fullest. I have the decoding program. There is a comprehension component once you get to around level B1 but you may have to add your own higher level thinking questions. My students have loved being able to track their own progress. There is also a point system built into it. One of the biggest complaints I have heard about this program is that it is too scripted. The thing about the scripting is that it is in very clear language that is not confused by students. I have had nothing but a good experience with this program. My students are saying they can read now and they enjoy the stories. Their self-confidence has improved and they are seeing success. That is what matters most. I hope you like it as well.

I will be using the B1 level. I will have to train myself from the websites training. I am a bit nervous about it Do you have any advice? I was hoping to get the Spelling Mastery program as well but don't think my district will make the investment yet because they are buying the CR program for a number of us. I did have them purchase the comprehension component as well
Thanks for responding! One more question... is there a homework component or do you do the student workbook in class?

My advice would be to practice the lesson the day or night before. My students do the workbook at the end of group and if there is time we correct it afterwards or the next day at the beginning of group. Have all your students been placement tested into B1? How much time do you have for both the decoding and comprehension each day? I have forty-five minutes and that usually is enough for decoding. I would love to have the comprehension as well but there just isn't enough time. Are you resource doing pull out services or are you self-contained?

I have a 90 min block. I am so lucky because my kiddos were tested already so they will start at B1. They have been trained in Reading Mastery. I was thinking of doing Decoding 3 times per week and comprehension 2 times. I was also thinking of putting all the board work on a PowerPoint Any other suggestions? Thanks again

You have the perfect amount of time and get to do both decoding and comp. Perfect that the kids were already placement tested and they have Reading Mastery training! Making a powerpoint with the board work sounds great too! I have done that sometimes as well.

Any thoughts on homework? I was thinking of copying the student readers and sending home the stories for practice. What do you think?

That is a great idea as well. I have the Common Core Connections book that you can get as well. There are stories in there with comp questions. It tells you what stories to give as practice, depending on what lesson you have gotten through..such as if you have gotten through lesson 5, you can give these three or four stories as supplemental practice. That would be perfect for homework purposes. I don't give my students homework so I use them as a warm up activity

It has supplemental stories/questions, activities and graphic organizers aligned to the Common Core standards. You can purchase it when you purchase the CR program.

And it is about $45-65, depending on the level.

There are short stories with comprehension questions to go with them based on which lesson you've completed so far. There are also vocabulary and other activities that you can do. Graphic organizers along with supplemental activities as well.
