One of the Dojo awards was choosing music for the class to listen to while on computers.
One boy chose it. The songs he chose are awful. Not inappropriate, just yuck. Including "Old Town Road", which I absolutely despise. Not inappropriate, but it's the dumbest song ever. Ugh.

MissAgnes I feel your pain with that song! I am a big believer in limiting choices. Next time I would give the student an approved list of songs from which to choose. Only a little while until summer.

I never let kids have free choice of music. They can either choose the songs or the volume; I get to choose the other. I wouldnít turn it all the way down just bc I didnít like a song, but I did turn it all the way down if it had inappropriate language or content. If they controlled the volume, I chose appropriate songs they would like unless they turned it up obnoxiously loud. If they did, I chose Beethoven or Yanni ir whatever I was sure they didnít like.

It has to be appropriate for the classroom.

I never play music until I have thoroughly checked out the lyrics. I rarely let them pick music, this was a high point value reward. He got to pick 5 songs.
I switch up the music: instrumental versions of pop songs, jazz, classical, upbeat background music.
There was nothing inherently wrong with the songs, I just don't like them.
