$1000 What to buy?

I am being gifted with $1000.00 to create a sensory / calm down room for my special ed. students. I teach in an elementary self-contained special education classroom and several of my students are autistic. I want to get as much as possible with the money that I have. Where do you suggest I buy things and what would you buy?

I have a small room (maybe 8 feet x 8 feet). There are 2 outlets so I can plug some things in. Thanks in advance!

Lets see:
a couple of bean bags, fidgits, privacy dividers for desks, lamps, material to cover shelves, swing (probably not enough room), lap weights, bouncy balls to sit on.., calming music.. if I think of more, I'll post. Hope this helps

There is a bodybag that the kids loved! It's like a book sock that they climb into. Also, Weighted vests or pillows are helpful too. We had a lava lamp. They make vibrating cushions too.
I'm sure you could google and get lists with links if you want to order online.

I just got some stress balls from oriental trading. I'm getting some therabands for busy feet. We have something called a hippity hop. It's a ball with a handle so kids can bounce.

I too have the school sensory room and have now gone down to a 13X15 room. I am not sure how I will put all my sensory things in the room. I know I can't use the swing. Anyway, the ideas you have gotten are great. I get my supplies from School Specialty- Abilitions and Intergrations catalogues. I don't have the url but if you search school speciality that will get you to their main page and then you can go into the specialty catalogues.
One thing I did add to my room last year was the soft rubberized floor mats that are interlocking. It contained the area for sensory, gave the students a soft landing when using some of the therapy ball ,and I didn't want the students on tile with their body socks on. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I also found a site called Special Needs Toys. They have lots of things that are reasonably priced.
