3 good faith attempts!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Oh, I am sooooooooooo mad. I have been bending over backwards to accommodate this family. It is one of those kids who has a room full of professionals. I found ONE DAY that all specialists were available, checked with mom. She said, well, okay, but she is busy. She wants copies of everyone's reports before the meeting so she can study them. So, I convince everyone to get things done in 1/2 the time.
TODAY, I tell her that I will have all the reports gathered so she will have them 3 days before the meeting.
She claims that because I did not CONFIRM that I could get all the reports, she assumed we were not having the meeting.
She is too busy to make it and thus we have not given her three good faith attempts at including her in the meeting. She wants us to cancel it until she is ready.
I am beyond furious! Why do some parents think we are out to get them? We should be a team working together.
TALK ME DOWN!

I'm not talking you down, you have every right to be upset. How rude! That's just awful, and I'm so sorry she's putting you through this.

Send her an invitation

You may have already done this. Send her an invitation with the date. She will either have to sign that she is coming or she will have to suggest another date. Get everyone for that date (do they have to come or just submit input into IEP?). If she doesn't come and said she would, you can (if you wish) have the meeting w/o her.
Your state may be different but that is what we do.
Document everything and all your attempts.
Can the EC office help you with this? I don't know your district requirements but in some cases we have had meeting w/o parents (no it is not ideal but the kid's needs require it) due to such parents.

I agree she is very rude & possibly nuts. You have done everything to accommodate her wishes.

I like to think the best of even the most uncooperative parents but this one takes the cake.

Maintain professionalism and kill em' with kindness!
