Does anyone teach in a departmental kindergarten class? Can you share your schedule? Pros? Cons?
Bonus points if you are required to do Tennessee Portfolios.

Thanks!

Have done it.

Sucks.

Completely developmentally inappropriate.

Don't do it.

I never want to be departmentalized again. I know the portfolios are no joke, but think about all of the "extra" time you're giving up by going departmentalized.

My previous principal made us do this for 4 years until the district told her to end it for K-2.

I disliked the idea from the beginning but complied.

The students enjoyed rotating from class to class & were more flexible than the teachers

My thoughts

Pro-1 set of lesson plans to create weekly (not much of an advantage if you already divide plans with team)

Cons- Unable to build a true class family spirt because they are not in your room long enough, unable to see their development in all subject areas,

No advice, but I'm certain I would hate this.

Haven't done it and wouldn't want to. And I function way too differently than most of my teammates for it to work well. We would all suffer.

Thanks for all the replies. I would still like to see a schedule if anyone is willing to share.

I teach in an immersion school, so we departmentalize. I teach literacy and social studies in English for half their day. They spend the other half with my partner for math, science, and literacy in Spanish. We make it work. If it's not an immersion program, I can't think of any reason to do it. It's not what is best for kids.
