I have a sixth grader who is very very slow. Takes him a long time to do work, but he does sit through it and has a lot of patience. I usually instruct the class, have everyone do some work sheets and then help him. He is not LD, but this is my problem: he can know and understand something one day and then just forget it 2 days later? He is already behind in class work, i'm not sure how I can help him. Its like I will explain somehting to him, he will be able to do it and hten the next day forget it. After a math test, he'll forget everything, and math yo really can't move on without that info...

Do you know for sure he's not LD? Has he ever been tested for a disability?

he was tested at the end of 5th so I mean unless they missed something...It took the teacher a year to convince the parents to get him tested-they didnt want it done at all.

Maybe he has a different disability such as FAS. The mom might not have wanted him tested because she was afraid that the school might find out that she drank during pregnancy. Just a thought. They can have similar symptoms. But then, some people just think of special ed. as something terrible and not as something to help their child. They fear the label. You can look into interventions for FAS and see if it helps. You could also put some accomodations for him for his work in class.
