Does anyone else get nervous about the opening of school? We spend the whole summer coming up with ideas, tweaking old ideas and then it's time for the rubber to meet the pavement! Will it work at least semi like I want it too? Will I forget my VP goodies? Will I have so much mandated to me that I won't be able to implement my new ideas? Will my students be so atrocious that all we can do is paper and pencil? This will be my 13th year of teaching and I still have these worries!! Anyone else?

I have taught for 16 years and I'm ALWAYS nervous about the first day of school. Something about the big unknown factor, not knowing what to expect and what the dynamics of the class ( or classes, in my case -- middle school ) are going to be. All the kids are giant question marks to me.

going on 14 years and EVERY year....Major anxiety the night before especially..."Am I prepared enough"; "Do I have enough to occupy them all day?" etc. The second question is hysterical because I have NEVER in my entire teaching career, no matter what grade I have done, I have NEVER run out of things EVER so I don't know why I get like that! Oh well...

can't sleep and have to do all sorts of self-talk so that I won't spend the whole night worrying about this or that!

I get nervous every year and can't sleep as well! Why do we do this? It always works out and let's face it ladies (and gents)... we are good at what we do! We are good because we put a lot of effort into it! We just need to chill out and know it's all going to be just fine!

I've been teaching since 1976 and still have dreams and nerves before the first day. That is why I love to read First Day Jitters to my students on the first day. I can certainly make a Text to Self connection!

Yep! I am getting more nervous and had a bad dream the other day where I went into school and thought it was the day to start setting everything up, and it ended up being the first day of school. It was AWFUL!! I never sleep well the night before school starts either ... how silly we are even as adults

This will be my 14th year, and I've still got a good 3 wks. to go before school starts, but as soon as I see August on the calendar, the gnawing in my gut starts. For me, I worry about how I'll manage my small ones at home, keep up with the laundry, get to the grocery store, keep up with quasi-homemade meals, and do the bazillion things we do as teachers at school on top of that. Our school is small so thankfully, few surprises come my way as far as the students. I do know what I'm getting, and this year, it will be a handful! Prayers for all of us!

This will be my 5th year and my stomach feels like it's tied in knots. Today I was laminating and cutting out things for my door, and I kept feeling panicked because we go back soon, next Thurs. and I have a to-do list that is impossibly long. I do this every summer gather lots of ideas, save and then rest. Then when the end of July gets here I start to worry about what I'm actually going to need!

It seems that every teacher I talk to first year or longer are nervous for the beginning of school.

So join the club. You're in good company.

Even after a decade of teaching. You'd think I'd feel more at ease!
