Solving Word Problems display

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I haven't taken a picture of it yet, but I freehanded one. The idea started with something I saw in Mailbox, and then I changed it to fit the way I like to teach solving word problems.

I made a huge pawprint. We're the Wildcats and that and the school colors are my theme.

On the pad part, I have "Before you solve a word problem, pause and "paws" it."

Then there are four claw or finger (?) parts, all on separate pieces of paper. On the first on is a very large "P". Under it, I have "Plan" in large letters. Then I have "Picture It","Circle the question." and "Make a Plan".

On the next claw is the large letter "A", with "Answer it" under that.
Then I have "Work carefully."

On the next claw is the large leter "W", with "Watch for Errors" on it. Under that, I have "Are you following the correct procedures?"

Finally, on the baby claw, is the large letter "S", with "Study the answer" under it. Then I have "Does your answer make sense?"

Can you picture it?

I'll take a picture in a few days.

Sounds great! I'm looking forward to seeing this. I'm also wondering if anyone has created a display showing the different types of word problems - comparison problems, unknown start problems, etc...
