Hour of Code

Is anyone doing this next week? This will be my first attempt with coding, but it looks pretty easy and they explain it really well on the website. If your interested, check it out:
https://code.org/

I clicked on try the hour of code and I plan to do the Minecraft one. There is a video tutorial and it seems pretty doable. I teach third grade, but there are different levels.

There is so much on the code.org website. I tried the miecraft game after you suggested it!

Our school will be participating again this year. I am always surprised at the kids who can really push through and persevere on these challenges.

Scroll down a few posts to see others who are participating this year.

Good luck!

I had my class start on Friday because we had access to computers twice. In the morning we had the one class set of Chromebooks our school shares and in the afternoon we went to the library to use desktops. It was great both places. I had them watch (using headphones) the video and then go. They chose the program they wanted and were off. Not a peep to be heard and all were super-engaged.

I, too, tried Minecraft. What fun!

My plan is to have them all start with Minecraft and throughout the week if they have time they may choose a different one. I'm sure my girls will all want to try Frozen.

We do it every year and it's great. I also teach third.

Be warned, the Frozen one was difficult (a lot of geometry), though they may have tweaked it this year. My kids did Star Wars this morning and most of them completed all 15 levels in about 20 minutes.

We did Minecraft this morning but many will want to do Starwars today. I told them if they finish all of their assignments throughout the week they may go back on. I really recommend it to anyone to at least try...
