Read Aloud Andrew Clements

Thinking of reading aloud an Andrew Clements title for my fourth graders. I am hopeful that this will motivate them to read more of his novels.

Any suggestions for an Andrew Clements read aloud?

I like Landry News! The class works together to publish a newspaper.

Frindle or No Talking.
Get ready to hear a lot of can I have a blue frindle? or have your students start their own no talking contest.
His work always sparks a lot of excitement in students!

Frindle is one of my favorite books ever, but No Talking is one the kids seem to really get into.

I did Frindle with my 3rd graders at the beginning of the year. They loved it. They went to the library as we were reading it to check it out. Read aloud was done, so was the interest.

No Talking was a favorite in my classroom this year. They tried to start their own contest and the poor things couldn't even make it a half an hour!

Frindle is my favorite. I have read this second graders before. They love watching the character grow/change and then find out what he does as an adult.

Another vote for No Talking. The kids love it and every single class tries to do their own contest. I've had a couple of kids last nearly a whole day!

Reading Landry News

I didn't have Landry News in my collection of Andrew Clements books so I borrowed Landry News from the library. I started it this week and the kids love it. On Friday they pulled apart our community paper and the discussion was productive and rich. It was a great choice for introducing the author. I have several copies of Frindle and No Talking that I know they will enjoy for independent reading after the holiday break.
