Read aloud help

Hello all!

Iíve spent part of my Christmas break trying to choose a new read aloud for my 6th graders, and I need help!Iím just stuck and canít seem to find anything that sounds exciting. Also, as Iíve been searching, it has occurred to me that everything Iíve done this year has been written by a woman, so I would really like to read something by a male author. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

Fish in Tree! Itís about a 5th grade girl with dyslexia but has not been disgnised so sheís mocked by students and her teachers assume sheís just being defiant. Itís a great book about accepting those with differences.

My students loved Fires of Invention, J. Scott Savage, that some went out and bought the next one in the series for themselves.

It gets quite a bit of discussion going about creativity versus the amount of conformity needed for a society to work.

This year they're calling it "the Trenton book" (main character).

called On My Honor by Marion Dane Bauer will spark some serious discussions. The main characters are 6th grade boys.
