If this question is too personal, I know you'll probably just go on to the next post.

What I would like to know is:

If you've been hired this summer, how many year's teaching experience do you have?

I retired this year and so did three other people at my school.

The teacher who took my place was in our building and could retire as far as years go.

The three new fourth grade teachers :

one with about 4 years. one with about 12 years and one with about 7 years.

One was a Middle Schools principal's wife. One was a graduate of this school and the last one was teaching in the primary building and moved up. The new math teacher moved up from Kindergarten to teach 5th grade math and she probably has about 7 years experience.

My friend's son just got hired in another town where he student taught and he has zero experience.

I was hired this summer, and I will be a first year teacher!

I'm guessing you are on the job search! Don't lose hope; the right job is out there for you! Good luck!

I have 10 years of teaching experience and got hired this summer, but it was very competitive - one job I was interested in hired someone with 20 years experience. Keep the faith! The right job will come

experience teaching, but 17 are in prek and 9 in grades 3 & 4.

I feel very fortunate that my experience was looked at as an advantage. It was a pleasant surprise.

Well, I am encouraged!

I have 20 years. Districts in my state only have to give a new hire 10 years on the step scale. Even at that, I feel I am an expensive hire.

Since I have 20 years experience and a school would only have to give me credit for 10 years, I wish I could find a tactful way of saying on my resume or cover letter or something "hey, you get double your money!".

The summer I was hired, I only had 1 semester of experience. I gave a great interview and was called and offered the job the same day.

Good luck!

When I was hired at a new school corp. I had taught for 10 years, but they only had to give me 3 years on the pay scale. I've been trying to catch up ever since...

Thank you so much for the feedback.

I have revised my cover letters to include something about how I have 20 years experience but would be on the salary scale for not over 10 years. I was tactful. Honest.

One would think experience would be an advantage, but I understand that in this economy schools have to watch the bottom line.
