Theme? Why princesses and unicorns of course!!! Make that one little girl feel welcome!

Kidding, of course, but sheesh, what a bad break for her.

I thought my numbers were bad last year. I had 8 girls and 16 boys. It was a rough year. Lol

I'm starting my second year in a row of all boys! A few years ago I had all boys and one girl--they were playing one day when the girl said to one of the boys, "If I have to play with boys at least you should do what I tell you to do!"

I like the Dr. Seuss ideas or maybe a jungle or zoo theme...most kids love animals!

Last year I had all boys and only 4 girls. I felt like I was the coach of a soccer team! Janice

Every year I get the class that is "heavy" on the boys. I really don't mind, but only one girl! I cannot believe the admin would isolate one little girl...she should at least have one peer in her class. Best wishes!

What about a super hero or super kid theme? I did that a few years ago and they all loved it!

Wow! That poor girl. In the 17 years I have taught, I have always had pretty much an even amount of girls and boys. I was told that this year I will have probably 19 students with only about 7 girls.

I would definitely keep doing what you were planning to do in the first place. I think I would take all boys over all girls though. I had 17 girls and 2 boys last year and there was always some sort or crisis going down. Good luck.

I think that you are in for an interesting year. I have never taught with that ratio, but when my DD was in 4th and 5th grade it happened to her. Next thing i knew it was t-shirts and jeans all year (cheap wardrobe days) and she would get very frustrated whenever the boys tried to exclude her because she was "only a girl". It was a great year for self-esteem and talking about gender issues!

Is there another class that they could move one more girl to your room. If that would have been me (too many years ago to count) I would have not wanted to go to school. I have no brothers and only 2 boy cousins that I saw on a regular basis.

Anyhow--- your? I see poka dots - green and yellow or pink and blue. Just what came into my head when I read your post. Good luck!

I had 20 boys and 3 girls.
I would go with a superhero theme. My girls loved it too.
