Need a Good Play for 5th Grade

I want to do an end-of-the year play with my 5th graders next year. This will be a major production and I want a great script to use with my students. Anyone have suggestions of a play they have used with great success? My budget will be limited and I will have to rely on many student-made props, costumes, etc., so I have to keep that in mind when making my selection. All ideas are welcome!

Not sure where you can find it, but a great one that one of our 5th grade teachers did was "The Real Story of the Three Little Pigs." It was at the end of our old 4th grade Scott Foresman basal, but she got it somewhere else. It is also on the internet as a readers' theatre selection. I've done the readers' theatre - fun, quick and easy.

If it's found in all these places, I'll be you can get your hands on it. I believe it's based on a book - can't remember the author.

The kids had lots of fun with it and the size of the cast was very flexible.

Bad Wolf Press writes and publishes musicals for the elementary level. I have done their Westward Movement musical and loved it. The music is catchy and the kids really enjoy themselves. All of their musicals are content based. You will find science, social studies, and language arts themes for a variety of grade levels.

You can always have the students brainstorm for the props and the costumes they will need and use a reader's theater. The only thing really missing is the stage directions, and 5th graders could write their own. Anyway here is my favorite site for Reader's Theater Scripts

http://www.timelessteacherstuff.com/

Here is a large collection of scripts that are found on different websites;

Hope this helps
