Clip to ScrapBook #1

We are down to about 23ish days left w/students. Some of my students have checked out. I'd like to do some STEM/STEAM
activities with them to keep them engaged. We don't do anything like this throughout the year.

Anyone have some ideas that would be good for 2nd/3rd graders?

TIA!!!

We are going to do the Harmless holders from the Green category our last week. There are some fun ideas on here.

We have built catapults, built bridges/ structure that can hold a text book with gumdrops and toothpicks, try to build the highest tower with gumdrops and toothpicks, used 2 sheets of paper and 10 inches of tape to build a table (see how much weight it holds), the marshmallow/spaghetti noodle tower....

Thanks!!

What did you do prior to the activity? Any planning, writing, forms to fill out, etc.?

How about afterwards? Come back together to discuss? Any written portion to go with it?

Just curious as to what the entire process is...from beginning to end.

Thanks so much for the above ideas! I appreciate it.

I had some kind of form for the bridge building one. I am looking for it though - I changed computers this year and finding things has been a challenge if I didn't put them in the right place... found it. .

I have a powerpoint and a complete packet of stuff for the catapult. Any chance you have google docs? I could share them easily on there.

Otherwise, I would use the engineer design process and have them make a plan, test, and replan. Then you could have them write some kind of report - compare and contrast the various designs the class come up with, tell what worked better and explain....

The PBS site has a place for kids to upload their designs and share them with the world. I thought that pretty neat. That site also has some videos/pre/post activities with those that look pretty good.
