This book was recommended by a blog I follow on FB. Has anyone read it? If so, thumbs up or down?

TIA

Whoa. My spouse *just* put this on my kindle because I had a crappy week and he thought it might make me laugh. I've only read a few pages. The description of the school seems a little far fetched.

Quote:
I have students who go home to multi-million dollar mansions with indoor pools, and others who live in the back of a pickup truck with a tarp over it. There are students with parents who have medical, doctoral and law degrees and those with parents on welfare, in jail or in a homeless shelter.
And she has some statistics that seem too good to be true.

Also, her first chapter describes teaching students who identify as "furries"...

I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes, I read it when someone posted about it here last year. The author admits that some of the stories actually happened to colleagues. It reads as very far-fetched in terms of all the horrible stories happening to just one teacher. But it was entertaining. It read like reading the vent board here. If you like reading that board you will be entertained by the book. If that board stresses you out, the book will stress you out.

Try Teach Like Finland. Much less negativity and complaining.

I've read a third of it and I'm deleting it off my kindle. I just can't. You know what it seems like? Like someone who's not actually a teacher went on to a board like this one and wrote down all of the crazy stories s/he saw. Then they embellished 90% of the stories, slapped in some statistics about the state of education and teacher turnover, and managed to get a publisher to pick it up.

It's really negative, and not even funny. Wine makes me feel better than this book.

Alrighty, I'll take it out of my cart.

If you want a funny read that uplifts and reaffirms how wonderful teaching is, try "32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny". The laminator scene makes me laugh out loud every time.

I've read it, and it's really funny! It's like going to The Vent. It is some of the ridiculous things she's gone through. I follow her on Instagram too.

While some of the stories may seem exaggerated to you, I honestly can relate with the school I taught at last year.

I have no doubt that she cares about what she does. She just used her book as an outlet.
