The reason for teaching

It’s not the money or prestisge.
1. Seeing students achieve daily
2. Reuniting with students 1 to 40 years later to see what part you had in a person’s life.
3. When that kindergarten child who is now 40 says “ I went back to school because you always told me I could do it”
I run into my students all the time. Some kids claim I was their teacher but it was the person down the hall but I interacted with all kids.
Money and prestisge can never compare to a simple “ I remember you . You were my favorite teacher “

I agree 100%!!!

The other day I ran into a parent I hadn't seen in years. I asked about the kids. Her DS, who I had, is in vet school. She told me he frequently says how I was the one who organized him the most. I'll take it! That made my day!!!

The random (and rather startling) hug at the supermarket from the 6' tall man I taught when he was 9.

The uncle of a current student saying to the mother (his sister) "She'll do great. Mrs Tiamat taught me at Previous School. She's awesome".

These are the stories that make my day... I think we all know what a difference a teacher can make in a child's life because someone did that for us. I admire those who decide to be that teacher for others.

My story is long... but in short, I sub. I've been at it long enough to have kids thank me for things I don't remember doing or saying. I've had a parent tell me that because of me their daughter loves to read.

It's great to feel that you are making a difference, one child at a time.

Definitely those "lightbulb" moments when I kid "gets it". Especially if they have been struggling with a concept. Those moments are like crack to me.
