5 Elements of Reading- Most important??

Which one do you think is the most important element? My friend was asked this in an interview. I have an interview coming up and I'm thinking they all are equally important. Phonemic awareness is the indicator on how well students will read, phonics is important since we often use this to check to see if our read makes sense, vocabulary is important so we can understand the material, fluency is important so that we can comprehend what we read, and comprehension is important because that's the reason we read. What do you think?

They're all important. Phonemic awareness was ignored for many years and we saw lots of problems with reading foundation. But just because a child can read anything put before him, doesn't mean squat if they don't comprehend. That's why we aim for balanced literacy programs.

Ultimate Reading Goal

The ultimate goal in reading is comprehension. Without comprehension, we really are not reading...just word calling. The truth is, they are not separate entities...they are all connected as pieces of a puzzle. You need all of the pieces to create the complete picture. They are all important, but to me the biggest piece of the puzzle is comprehension.

I love the way Earvel put it, about pieces of a puzzle! If forced to pick just one, comprehension.
