Help with computer lab activity

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Our school just purchased a notebook computer lab. I am chomping at the bit to get in there, but am having a hard time coming up with an activity to do. I don't want it to be too overwhelming. A partner teacher had thought about dividing up the poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and let each student illustrate a part of the poem using Appleworks. However, the notebooks do not use a separate mouse so I think this would make drawing very difficult. Any other ideas????

Do you have a program to teach them keyboarding skills?

Do you have internet access so they can go to Starfall? Or to the sites of some of your favorite authors?

I haven't worked at too many schools that have had really good technology for first grade, but these are some of the activities I have done with my prior classes.

A new lab! How exciting!

Here are a couple of websites that you can look through to find something that will fit your needs:

Random House's Seussville site especially the games: http://www.seussville.com/#games

It's a good place to start learning to use the computer if your students are unfamiliar with it.

Thanks for the links! We have a portable laptop lab and my kids love using it! I was worried about the touchpads at first but I'm amazed at what they can do. Just remember that they are growing up with this stuff so it's not as difficult to them as it may seem to us. My kids love creating pictures on microsoft paint! In fact, they knew more about it than I did so I let them teach me!
