Clip to ScrapBook #1

I try and do one project/poster a month with my 4th graders and although I'm set with Social Studies, Sciences, and Religion I'd really love to find some interesting and fun math projects or posters my students could do either in the classroom or at home. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

We do one that is really fun at my school. The kids write their own math song. They record themselves singing the song along with the music. They are allowed to work in groups to create and sing the song. Then we give those who wrote their own song a chance to go to the recording studio and we end up with a great cd of math songs each year.

The kids who don't want to sing a song make a math ABC book. They have to have a page for each letter of the alphabet that gives the term, a picture, and the definition.

The math cd is a lot of fun and the kids love listening to it. We recorded it this year in November and everyone sings along when we listen to the cd in class now. Even the teachers do a song. This year we did a song about math to the tune Rapper's Delight. The kids love it!

Once we go through our geometry unit I have student print their name on white paper and then find the "math" in their name. How many letters, right angles, acute angles, triangles, circles, odd number of letters, even number of letters, parallel lines, intersecting lines, perpendicular lines, etc. They make them colorful and then we display them. They always turn out cute and shows if kids know the basic geometry vocabulary.

Love your math activity. Just wondering, do you have the kids write their name in upper ot lower case? Or doesn't it matter?

For geometry we make polygon scarecrows out of construction paper. We also write our names using polygons!
For decimals- We make decimal snow man. We make a snowman out of construction paper. Then put a decimal problem in the middle circle and use buttons for the decimals.
