I'll be tutoring a 7th grader an hour a day once returning from break and I'm still going back and forth on how much to charge for the hour? Does anyone know the going right in there area? I'm in Mass.

$40-$50 is the going rate in central MA...probably higher in the Boston area

I do our tutoring program at school. The district pays us $38 an hour. The program is done with Title I funds so we also get $25 a week for an hour of planning purposes.

$50 is way too much, I am sorry. But I would skipping tutoring if I would pay that much, heck $250 per week or $1,000 is more than a typical house payment.

I would state $15-20 per hour.

I would mostly likely charge the district's hourly pay rate. In my district, hourly rate is $28.50. I'd probably round that up or down depending on the situation.

Driven2BG, I started tutoring 18 years ago in MA and charged $25 per hour. Currently, I'm tutoring 3 elementary aged children and charge $45 per hour. I also have friends who in central MA who charge $40-50 per hour.

It absolutely depends on the area! Driven2BG, where are you located?

I teach in NYC and live on Long Island and the lower average is $50/hr. If a parent wants me more than once a week, I'd give a discount and say maybe $45. but I would never charge less than that! I've been screwed a few times because of extra planning, travel etc.

I charge 45$ for one hour session. I live in Texas. My sister lives in Michigan and is a teacher, she says they would be very lucky to get 20$ an hour!

My friend has her own tutoring business and charges $40 an hour. I know other people who charge $75 an hour in high income areas.

At school, I did a private tutoring company program with students from my own class in my own classroom twice a week last year, and its $45 an hour.
