My First Sourdough Loaf

I'm gonna brag for just a minute. I love bread. Especially home made, fresh out of the oven, bread. But I've always been kind of afraid of making bread. I watched a couple of friends make sourdough starters in March and April. After searching a lot, I finally found a basic starter recipe and started mine in early May. I've made a few things with it. One round of bread which was okay, but not great. Two batches of sourdough focaccia bread (first one was okay, second one was great). Sourdough pancakes - a BIG win for DH and I. But, I was still kind of scared about making a loaf. This is my favorite thing I've made so far....sourdough sandwich/toast bread. It is so good. I've had 3 slices with butter. I'm trying it as toast in the morning. I may make myself a sandwich for dinner just to try the bread that way! Also, I forgot to snap a photo before cutting into it, I was so excited about trying it!

Looks great! My mom makes sourdough bread every week. I have gotten a starter from her several times and will make it for a while, but I always end up letting it die- or killing it. It is a family favorite!

That bread looks delicious. Sourdough is my favorite bread. I have made it in the past and always liked the smell has it was fermenting/rising. Enjoy your bread.

It is hard to beat homemade bread fresh from the oven.

I will admit the smell from the oven was amazing!

Klarabelle, I love smelling the starter in the kitchen. It makes me happy!

Mmm! It looks amazing! Can you share the recipe. Baking bread is one the things I have yet to try making.

This is the recipe I used for the sourdough bread:
https://alexandracooks.com/2019/04/1...oasting-bread/

I've also made this focaccia bread. Instead of topping with salt, I used garlic salt, parmesan, and rosemary. Next time I'm going to try Italian seasoning instead of rosemary.
https://alexandracooks.com/2019/03/2...ginners-guide/

This site helped me with my sourdough starter.
https://www.backtoourroots.net/every...afraid-to-ask/

Thought I'd add...I've used only all purpose flour for all the recipes. I haven't been able to find bread flour so I'm using what I have. The two recipes give a little info on decreasing the water when using all purpose flour.
