Any strategies on how to identify the beginning sound in a word? Iíve tried finger down the arm and sliding finger across the table.

Try starting with the continuous sounds - m, s, r, etc. The ones that can be stretched out.

Practice sorting pictures by beginning sound, but start with only two that are very different.

Get pairs of pictures and practice whether or not they start with the same sound.

Play alliterative games and songs.

Does the child use zoophonics or anything similar that uses hand motions to go with the letter sounds? That helps my kids tremendously.
