Mask incident

I really have trouble keeping my mouth shut at times, and unfortunately, DS suffers the same affliction. We had to run to Home Depot today for a toilet part as we only have one potty in our home. Someone commented on DSís mask, like, heís young, why is he wearing one? Person wasnít masked. DS replies, ďMy Mom is keeping us safe. Why arenít you?Ē

I love your son. How old is he? He won't outgrow it. My dd 15 always feels the need to speak up for people if someone is being mean.

good for him!

i really want to say something to everyone i see in a store maskless, but i also don't want to end up on a video online. i just don't think i could control myself if things got ugly--so i settle with just glaring at them and steering clear.

You can go back to Home Depot on July 22nd and everyone should be wearing masks. No arguments or degrading banter.

I've seen social media responses where people seem upset about someone requiring a child to wear a mask.

Good for your son for understanding the importance.

Good for him. I am so sick of people saying that kids can’t get the virus when everyday we hear about outbreaks at children’s camps and other news of some getting it.

I am also sick of the people who won’t wear one because it is a free country and they have rights. I say, they have the right to die too. I know that sounds mean, but they are essentially putting themselves at risk.

I agree that your son shouldnít have been questioned about his mask. If you and he are comfortable in them and arenít experiencing any adverse side effects. Hopefully you have plenty on hand so you can change them when they become damp or contaminated by touch.

However, the posters who are proud of glaring and shaming those not wearing masks are another issue. Can you not understand that people have been through many things you havenít? Why does it seem COVID has given us permission to be so unkind? Seriously, glaring at someone because theyíre not covering their face in cloth? How do you know that person isnít a rape victim who has PTSD and is triggered by the mask. You donít.

The suicide rate is higher than the covid death rate, but that doesnít make the news since there is no money to be made from a vaccine for suicide.

Sorry. I shouldnít have said what I did. I took the scenario to mean that the person who asked why the son was wearing a mask was saying it rudely.

This is true. But that person should probably not be at Home Depot. Where I live, I can get just about anything delivered. I had paint delivered. And our governor put out an executive order that masks must be worn in indoor spaces.
