Stella has come to approve of my Gentleman Friend. Here she is, blissfully snuggling his hat as she sleeps.

Feline approval can be hard to earn!

DH and I went out to get photos of Jupiter and Saturn, but I ended up catching some lightning.

Just this minute....this is as close as I could get before he flitted away. Early and still overcast, but yay, a hummingbird on a day I need good luck.

I don’t think they will be this happy when they have to do it as a chore in a few years.

Veda girl's vet is doing the curbside thing like so many across the country. When she got back in car, she broke social distancing guidelines.

This little lady found a shady spot right behind our campsite last week. She dozed and posed for pictures for over an hour and then wandered off to eat.

I was recently informed DS has the best shirts at school. I mean....they’re funny because they’re true.

"the stinkeye." I get it a lot, too. He also bites the back or front of my knees if I am not moving fast enough to please him in the mornings.

Puzzle #13. This is Buffalo brand Grandma's Attic. 1000 pieces. I did not like the quality of this puzzle for a couple reasons. 1) The pieces physically fit and sometimes visually fit where they did not belong. This caused unnecessary difficulties. 2) During the process of putting it together, the top picture layer of the piece would peel up from the prong. I intend to spot glue these pieces before taking it apart. They are easy to find because my hand snags against them when I run my hand across the puzzle. One thing I really liked: although it came in a smaller box and therefore smaller picture, there was a "poster" inside that was about 1/3 size of the puzzle.

The "million-dollar" shot while driving down a section of PCH (Pacific Coast Hwy) in Laguna Beach. You have to get the shot just right to get the view.

27 masks
Old 07-24-2020, 10:34 AM
  #23

A gal that works with DS mentioned that she wanted some face masks to give out as party favors at a bridal shower--DS said, "My mom's been making some fun masks for back to school--like Curious George!"

She wanted 25, could I make them?

Please keep in mind that i have made about 20 of them--for myself and DH and a couple close family members--and one for my teaching partner. I am NOT an experienced seamstress--I make bibs and napkins--they are very forgiving. There has been a lot of trial and error and experimenting with masks.

I decided to challenge myself and say, sure, I'd do it. This was on Sunday. Also keep in mind that we were allowed into our brand new school building Monday to start unpacking. I had a little under 100 boxes. (I still have about 50 left.)

I read one teacher on FB tell others to just sew masks--it's way easier and takes just 5 minutes. I don't know what kind of masks she's making, but the fastest I can make one is 30 minutes--and that's if i'm not very careful!

I charged her WAY less than I should have only because I knew they weren't going to be "professional". I sent her a photo of the first 5 --3 or 4 different kind and asked if she wanted to look at them in person and if she had a specific design she preferred. She said those 5 were cute and that she didn't have a preference on style or fabric and that i should feel free to experiment and grow my craft. AWWWWWWWWWW...

These all have interfacing as filters and nose metal. I got carried away and cut out and prepped 27 masks--decided one fabric was not as cute so didn't use; decided i wanted to try 2 different fabrics for a reversible mask with color-coordinating beads (many of them are reversible, but all the same fabric)--I made the 2-color mask but realized it wouldn't be reversible if I used beads.
I'm exhausted! My back seized up the last 2 days. (I ended up giving her 27 total so that if she had 25 guests, the last people to choose actually had some choice.) She just picked them up and loved them!

This was a fun challenge, and it was a great experience to focus on SLOWING DOWN and paying attention to details. (my sewing drives my mom crazy!)

We are visiting my parents who have a house on the beach just down from Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Social distancing has never been a problem on this section, and it is even just after high tide here, which leaves very little beach. Been coming to this beach every summer for about 50 years

I did not get a picture today, but my dh and I sat outside and watched the rain fall while 2 momma deer first fed their 2 little fawns (yes, 4 fawns, 2 mommas) and let them scamper around in our back yard. It lasted quite a while and I feel blessed to have watched it.

Here is a poor picture I took through the window yesterday. I hate having to move or open a window or door because they are skittish. We didn't get a picture today because it was way more fun watching. If we had moved, so would they have. THe picture is just one set from yesterday through my window.

I've enjoyed all the photos! DGD's birthday memory book is getting made with a Golden Book from 1952. It has been a lot of fun as I learn more about journal making.
