Update on DD's birthday
Old 07-29-2020, 06:50 AM

The staff at the group home sent us a video of her birthday party. She actually had two cakes; the ice cream unicorn cake we had sent and a Little Mermaid cake the staff had bought for her. They had the mermaid cake sitting in front of her with the candles lit while they sang happy birthday, and the whole time, she was saying "Horsey Cake, horsey cake!". She blew out her candles and was proud to be the center of attention. She was very happy, although she had fallen and hit her eye on the chair in her bedroom and had a really ugly black eye. All is well.

It sounds like she was excited about her cakes. Glad they could send you a video showing your daughter had an enjoyable celebration. I hate that she hurt her eye but accidents happen. Maybe next year the world will be in better shape and you'll spend her birthday together.

It's fun to imagine her surrounded by her cakes, her group home friends and her caretakers all together to celebrate. Even more fun is to imagine mom and dad watching the video knowing she was happy with her two cakes and being the center of attention. The black eye (ouch!) might have been distracting to see, but from your description, she was more joyfully focused on her cakes and candles. So nice to know it turned out well, after all!

If she canít celebrate with her family, she definitely deserves two cakes! Iím so glad they shared a video to at least let you feel somewhat included in her birthday.

How fun for your DD to celebrate with her friends and staff. You & DH were there in spirit. I'm sorry about her eye, but I guess when you fall anything can happen.

BTW---I have been thinking of ice cream cakes lately. I'm glad she was able to get that treat.
