Do you have a lamp like this in your room?

I bought two of these last night at Target. It was after 9:00 and I was in a school-shopping daze. The colors will look great in my room, but when I got home and looked at it more closely, I thought about how the top is completely open. I teach older students (4th/5th) so I don't think I have to worry, but do you think it would be considered a safety hazard in the classroom? Should I have gotten a more closed-top lamp? Maybe I'm just overtired and overshopped, like many here!

I don't see it as a safety hazard.

I like the lamp and think it should be fine for the classroom. We aren't allowed any extra lighting. Too much electricity used!

I've got 4 of those, they're a little different but similar design. They're from Ikea. (I LOVE that store!)

I get nothing but compliments on them and the kids leave them well enough alone. I teach 3rd.

thanks everyone, I know I probably sound like a nut but I just wanted to see what you thought. Teach25+, I'm sorry you can't have lamps!

I don't think it is a hazard. I bought 3 black ones at the beginning of the summer to place around my room. I love having lamps around the classroom. I use my document camera a lot and the kids can't see the projection of the screen with the lights on but I don't trust my 4th graders completely with the lights off-- so we comprise with a few lamps around the room. I can still what they are up to and they can see the document camera projection.

I bought a white one like this for my classroom! Haven't used it yet. I am sure it's fine.

in my classroom that I use for nice lighting. My kids don't touch them and they like having the soft glow when the overhead lights are off for work on the overhead or Smartboard. Mine are not the same size as yours but I think yours are cute and will make your room homey and comfortable.

UL Listed?

As long as they have the UL tag, you should be ok.

My district is like one of the previous ones -- we can't plug in anything extra.

Lamp

Too cute! I have a couple of lamps but the bulbs are so low wattage that they don't really add to the light in the room....just a flow. Since we had to take our refrigerators home because of electricity use, lamps might be next on the list. We'll see~
