what's your addiction?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

So I promised DH I would NOT go overboard on the back to school supplies this year (honestly, that's half of why I became I teacher I think, I love back to school sales)...and have done pretty well so far this summer. As in I only went to Staples the week of the 1c pencils and folders. I have been resisting and resisting and it is taking every ounce of will power I have to not go shopping!

I find I can't live with out pens/pencils (I gave up years ago in assuming the kids would come to class prepared and I just give them out like candy...as long as they're the ones I got dirt cheap!) and post it notes (last year I required each student to bring a pack...we use them for everything and I used to buy them all...but this year it got left off our school supply list! oh noooo!)

So I wondered, what is everyone else's "can't-say-no-to-it" item? Maybe this will fill my school supply shopping void!!!

books, baskets, and shelves for my classroom library. I've even purchased a program from bookend software to manage my huge collection of 4000+ books I've acquired over the past 20 years.

Every year my room looks totally different and I change it multiple times throughout the year as well! I don't necessarily "buy" things, but I change the set up, move kids and furniture ALL the time!

I absolutely love any type of pretty paper: notepads, sticky notes, cards, you name it! The really weird thing is that I am so stingy with it once I buy it. I almost always use my least favorite items first. This year I'm going to try to live a little and go ahead and use the super cute stuff!

I love Sharpies! Fine point, thin, fat, primary colors, pastels...love 'em! I also seem to not be able to control myself with any kind of storage container. Sterlite, Rubbermaid...I really like little containers to hold paperclips, etc... Good thing I don't have a Container Store in my state. I'd probably go bankrupt!

I will be an academic support teacher again this year, after 23 years in the classroom. It was so hard not to go buy all the back to school specials. I am so used to buying folders, pencils, markers, etc. it feels odd not to purchase these items when they are on sale. My kids are 17, 14, & 14, so they require few school supplies, mostly notebooks, pens, and mechanical pencils, and of course the graphing calculator. I spent time organizing my closets and drawers at home this summer and found I have a ton of school supplies I have accumulated over the years. My DH just shook his head and laughed.

I have been tempted to buy school supplies several times, but have only purchased a desk calendar, new stapler, and a box of purple pens.

Maybe I could be someone's personal school supply shopper

The supplies I hoard the most are pens, especially Flair and Papermate Profiles (love the colored ink)! I also love post-its, colorful binder clips, and the little notepads that are shaped like different things like owls, ice cream cones, apples, etc.
Confession: I keep 2 large drawers in my desk simply devoted to hoarding my personal supplies!

Books!
Old 08-02-2010, 08:35 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #12

I love books. Everytime I read a post with a recommended book, I have to add it to my collection. I have baskets and bins of books and rotate them at school at least monthly. Many books don't make it to school, depends on the theme and year. My family hates to go to a bookstore with me. In fact when travelling I have heard them whisper, " Stay on this side of the street because there is a bookstore across the way. Don't let mom see it."
I also love buying baskets and containers. Since my collections keep growing, I'm always looking for new containers. I'm off today to find some smaller baskets for my author collections.

Post It Notes

I love a good post-it note. Cute ones, shaped ones, bright colors, even just the plain old yellow ones. If my drawer (yes an entire desk drawer) gets even a little low, I go into post-it withdrawals. I also love all school supplies, especially for good bargains. I'm a coupon/bargain shopper so cheap school supplies is even better.

Post it notes, all shapes and colors, index cards (white and pastels), sharpies (all kinds), cute binder clips, and "fancy" sprial notebooks. I also am a sucker for a cute smock, I have several that I wear while I work, they protect my clothes and keep me warm.

You call it school supplies and I buy it! However, since I have over 125 different bulletin borders I'd have to say borders. I even bought 2 or 3 new ones this summer.

for school supplies! It truly is a nice thing to know that many teachers share this common thing. I thought I was weird, but I'm not the only one that goes bananas when bts is near and sales are everywhere!! Pencils, paper, eraser tops, composition notebooks, construction paper, colored paper, fun pens (the ones with drawings on them), are supplies I can't live without. These are a few, but there's so much more to that!

I am wondering what in the world I did before going to Goodwill and Salvation Army. I was already into garage sales and flea markets courtey of my mother. I am addicted to buying everything from school supplies to small pieces of furniture or storage for my room. I'm also addicted to finding teacher resource books there at fantastic prices like 49 cents. I've already warned them they'll see less of me once school starts.
